John Cotton (4 December – 23 December ) was a clergyman in England and the American colonies and was considered the preeminent minister and theologian of the Massachusetts Bay studied for five years at Trinity College, Cambridge, and another nine at Emmanuel College, had already built a reputation as a scholar and outstanding preacher when he Relatives: grandfather of Cotton Mather.

John Cotton wrote the Latin form of his name in the book. His daughter Anne's ownership of dates to the death of her brother-in-law, the Rev. Nathaniel Gookin (a quarter of his estate consisted of books), also a minister in the church in Hampton.
